Window Fixes That Can Ensure You Won't Need To Replace Them Anytime Soon

There are many reasons why you might need to replace your window glass in your house, but replacing the entire window can get costly. It isn't always necessary to change the entire window either. There are fixes a professional or yourself can do so you won't need to replace the windows in your home or car.

Window Film

Window film is a great way to protect your windows and even furniture and upholstery in your house or car. Window film can protect the glass from hitting you or spreading around your home after breaking during a severe storm or in the event of an accident, such as something hitting your window. They also can protect you from UV rays and help cut down on the cost of heating and cooling your home by helping to insulate the window, and they can be reflective, which helps cut down on bird strikes and increase your privacy.

Replace the Glass

In some cases, simple repairs and tricks won't work, and you will need to replace the glass of your window. This doesn't mean you need to replace the entire frame—most window makers and installers create their own custom glass and can simply insert measured and sized glass into your existing window easily. This will cut down on costs, and often times, you will notice your home is better insulated after installation and you can have improved performance from your windows with the new glass.

Fix Condensation

If you find you have condensation between the panes of glass on your windows, then try placing a dehumidifier close to them. This can help take the moisture out of the room and modify the temperature difference between the outside and inside of your home. This is a temporary solution, but it can work until you are able to hire a professional to replace the glass.

You can also use a bit of foam insulation where you feel any leaks of air in the window to help seal the warm air in your home. This can help prevent any moisture from entering between the window panes, which will stop the condensation from forming.

Temporary Crack Fixes

If you have micro-cracks or even larger ones, there are a few things you can do to fix them temporarily. If the crack is small enough, smooth some clear nail polish over the crack. This will seal it until a professional can come and replace the glass. If the crack is too big, then place clear packing tape over the crack and on either side of the crack to help prevent further breakage.

About Me

why professional window installation is important

When I bought my parent's house off of them, the first thing that I wanted to do was remove all of the original windows form the 1950's and replace them with new, energy efficient windows. I started looking into what it was going to take to install the new windows to determine if that was the kind of project that I wanted to take on myself, or if I wanted to hire a professional window installation crew to do it for me. I found out all sorts of things that made me decide that the professional installation of replacement windows was going to be the best way to go.
