Bathing with soap will be unavoidable, but doing so is what actually makes your shower dirty. Soap scum can buildup and make a glass door look filthy, which is why it is important to regularly clean the surface. Here are some tips for keeping glass bath enclosures clean.
Use A Natural Cleaner
There are several natural cleaning solutions that you most likely have in your home.
The acids inside white vinegar will cause soap scum to melt, which allows you to easily clean it off a glass surface. Start by putting white vinegar inside a small spray bottle, then spray down the glass surface liberally. Let the vinegar sit in for several minutes, then wipe it off. It it has been awhile since you last cleaned the surface, it may take several applications to remove all traces of soap scum. Using white vinegar also helps the surface be streak clean when you're finished.
You can make a simple cleaning solution by mixing baking soda and a small amount of water together to form a paste. Rub it into the glass using a cleaning rag, since the baking soda's gritty texture helps all that soap scum become loose. Rinse off the glass door with some water, which should reveal areas that you may have missed. Keep scrubbing until the surface is clean.
Use A Conventional Cleaner
You can always purchase a conventional cleaning product designed specifically for glass surfaces. If you are not opposed to using chemicals in your bathroom, this can be a very effective way to get rid of soap scum without all the experimentation of making your own cleaning solution.
Dry The Surface
Having a squeegee inside your shower can help reduce how much soap scum forms on the glass. All you need to do is wipe off all surfaces with the squeegee when you are done bathing, which should remove bacteria and soap residue that would cause the surfaces to look bad. Just let the surface air dry, and you'll need to perform a deep cleaning less frequently.
Clean During A Very Hot Shower
If you clean while in the shower, you'll have better luck if you are doing it with very hot water running. That steams helps loosen soap scum, making it easier to clean the surface. Even if you do not clean in the shower, running very hot water prior to cleaning can make it easier to clean the glass.
